An effective strategy in increasing your global awareness is to read international journals online and to listen or view international podcasts and videos online. Below, are places to start.
TED. A splendid resource of video interviews and presentation on major issues affecting the world. Browse the index of topics. Videos may take time to download. (TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.)
British Broadcasting Company
Known for its global view, though the agenda is questioned by some, the BBC has quality writing about the world, now has downloadable podcasts and online video.
Uncommon Heroes Videos
In addition to leveraging media partners to create and distribute social entrepreneurship content, the foundation has produced several seven-minute films profiling Skoll entrepreneurs. These Uncommon Heroes films are premiered each year at the Skoll World Forum in Oxford as part of our annual award ceremony and are then available on a free DVD upon request. They are also distributed via YouTube and select web channels. The purpose of these films is to provide a practical tool for our social entrepreneurs, offer compelling examples of social entrepreneurship for the field and inspire others with stories of how one person can change the world at scale.

National Public Radio. National Public Radio (NPR) has long provided news and commentary from around the world. Download the podcasts or read online. Audio provided by the Economist. Main stories tend to be US-based, but features provide interesting stories from around the world.

Yale Global Online. This is a one-stop site for articles, websites, academic papers, and more for the study of Globalization as part of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. Published in Chinese, French, Spanish and Vietnamese, the site fulfills its intention to be truly global. View the flash videos on the history of globalization by Nayan Chanda.

International Newspapers Online. This is a free service of The University Libraries of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. You can register or click on links to country papers from around the world in English and other languages.

UNFPA Online Video. This is an excellent site of short videos from around the world concerning development issues. An interesting overview of what is happening among the poor in the global context.
