///Arts in Restorative Transformation

The Arts in Restorative Transformation (ART) Inventory was developed by Dr. J. Nathan Corbitt to help the artist reflect on his or her role in arts in restorative transformation–or social change. The test is based on a transformational model for both persons and communities found in the book Taking it to the Streets: Using the Arts to Transform Your Community by Dr. J. Nathan Corbitt and Dr. Vivian Nix-Early (Baker 2003).

There are four basic phases to this transformation model and four artist preferences for working with a community. The test taker selects one of four options in ten questions. All statements below are valid and worthy aspects of the artist personality. All statements are important in bringing about personal and social transformation. However, artists may have a preference toward one aspect more than others, in their creative endeavors. Definitions and preferences are provided at the end of the test. There is strong face validity, that is; test-takers confirm that their results reflect their artistic preferences in the restorative process. It is the only validation that has been performed on this test. It is a teaching and self-reflective exercise.

This test is a free service to those artists who work with vulnerable children and communities around the world and seek to understand themselves and their role in transformation in a more meaningful way.
